Throne of the Architects
The uncharted land of rivers, streams and swamps that lies far to the south beyond the rugmen, is the territory of the Fen Riders. Small in stature, these folk ply the waterways in small flotillas of marvellously crafted boats. Reports are few, but suggest that they possess a great knowledge of the natural world but that there is also a taint of dark magic that suffuses their lands. Tales told in human lands say that they regularly capture and eat those who stray too far into their lands and become lost in the labyrinthine waterways which the Fen Riders call home.
The term Fen Rider is a misnomer when applied to the entire race or even culture that inhabits the Fens. This is an erroneous human convention, based on a mistaken identification. Instead the so-called Fen Riders call themselves ‘the River Kin’, or the Kin for short. ‘Kin’ reflects the strong sense of family at the heart of their community. They also use ‘fennish’ to denote something that belongs to their world, akin to how the men of Thron use ‘human’.
